Rush For The Lifeboats

When the Titanic was going down on that terrible day in 1912, there were not enough lifeboats for everyone to be saved. So the first-class passengers were given priority. Not much has changed with the rich 105 years later. “I got mine, too bad about you,” is the motto of many of them.

Plus it is amazing how easily people forget where they came from.

Senate leader Mitch McConnell battled polio as a kid. Government health care healed him. Now he is happy to see 22 million people uninsured with his party’s healthcare bill. Same with House of Representatives leader Paul Ryan. His father died young and he took advantage of public assistance to get a good education.

Now, he and Mitch are in their lifeboat and they are using their oars to knock away any third-class passengers who are desperate to save their lives by climbing into the partially filled lifeboat. Donald Trump is a gigantic ass but these two men are simply evil.

Wait until their proposed budget gets announced, if you want to see malice in practice.

I am a 65-year-old retired journalist, busy recovering from a lifelong career as an unretired journalist. This year marks a half century of my scratching out little fables about life. My interests include genealogy, humour and music. I live in a little blue shack in Canada and spend most of my time trying to stay out of trouble. I am not that good at it. I also spent years teaching journalism. Poor state of journalism today: My fault. I have a family I don't deserve, a dog that adores me, and two cars the junk yard refuses to accept. My prized possessions include my old guitar and a razor my Dad gave me when I was 14 and which I still use when I bother to shave. Oh, and my great-great-grandfather's blackthorn stick he brought from Ireland in the 1850s. I have only one opinion but it is a good one: People take too many showers.

  1. Good analogy Jim ! Let’s not forget the governor of NJ Chris Christie enjoying himself all alone on his private beach. What I really can’t understand are the followers of the rich, who are all poor hard working people that think the rich will throw them a bone…..It’s like watching lemmings following the pied piper !

    1. Everyone of us is rich if we compare ourselves to others. Not all rich people are nasty and not all poor people are nice. The problem isn’t wealth but the feeling of entitlement some people attach to it.
